Comparing TOEFL Scores

TOEFL scores are required by many colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada in order to be admitted. These scores are mandatory when English is considered a foreign language.

If you take the Internet-based TOEFL, you will receive a total score that will range from 0-120 (120 is the best possible score). You will also receive four section scores; reading (0-30), listening (0-30), speaking (0-30), and writing (0-30). Your scores from each of these sections will be added together to provide you with the total score.

If you take the paper-based TOEFL, then your score will range between 310 and 677. You will receive three section scores; listening (31-68), structure (31-68), and reading (31-67). The writing score is separate and not factored into your total score. Your writing score may range from 0-6.
