The SAT Reading Section lasts 70 minutes. You will need to read both long and short passages and answer corresponding multiple-choice questions. The passages cover topics such as social studies, science, humanities and literary fiction. While you don't need to be an expert on the topics, you will need to show that you comprehend what you just read.
The multiple-choice questions will be in the format of sentence-completion and passage-based reading.
There are some questions that pertain to a pair of passages that you will be asked to compare and/or contrast. The passages range from between 100 to 850 words each.
You may be asked the following types of questions pertaining to the passages; vocabulary in context, literal comprehension, and extended reasoning. You will need to be familiar with vocabulary, which can be difficult to prepare for since you do not know which words will be covered and hone your critical reading skills for this portion of the SAT.
The sentence-completion questions will test your knowledge of the meaning of words (i.e. more vocabulary) and test how well you understand sentence structure.
