This test has two parts. The first part covers sentence structure, usage, mechanics and organization. You will be given reading passages to correct or improve based on proper grammar. The answers will be in multiple-choice format.
The questions might ask you where to put punctuation, how to capitalize the words, or how to organize a paragraph and misspellings.

You will get 75 minutes to answer the 50 questions in this part of the test. If you finish early, you can start on the second part.
The second part to the GED Writing Test is an essay. You will have at least 45 minutes to write your essay.
The essay must be at least a 5 paragraph essay. You will have to write an introduction, body, and a conclusion. The body should have 3 paragraphs, each with separate ideas. You need a main idea, or thesis statement. The conclusion must summarize the essay.
The subject will be assigned to you. The subjects are always general interest topics. An example might be how violence on TV affects teenagers.
This essay will not be scored by a computer. Instead, it will be scored by two reviewers that rank it on a scale of 1 to 4. An average score will be given. You must gain a score of at least a 2 to pass this test. Otherwise, you will have to repeat the GED Writing Test again.
